MARIMURTRA BOTANICAL GARDEN
Explore the Marimurtra Botanical Garden, a real gem overlooking the sea on the Costa Brava. Up the coast from Marimurtra, you can visit two other very beautiful gardens: Pinya de Rosa Tropical Garden (specialising in cacti) and Santa Clotilde Garden.
MARIMURTRA : DISCOVER OVER 3,000 SPECIES
Marimurtra Botanical Garden, created by Carl Faust in 1920, is an exceptional, unique place thanks to its privileged location by the sea, on the hillside overlooking Blanes.
Strolling through its gardens, home to over 3,000 subtropical and Mediterranean species, is an unforgettable experience, especially given the stunning panoramic sea views. Marimurtra has been declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest by the Government of Catalonia.
At present, its activity is gradually shifting towards the conservation of endemic or endangered species in the Mediterranean regions.
The garden is open all year round and runs a bus service from the city centre, with departures every 20 minutes in high season.
PINYA DE ROSA TROPICAL BOTANICAL GARDEN
This garden combines science and art at every turn. It covers around 50 hectares and is home to almost 7,000 species of different genera, sometimes from their natural habitat, nurseries or private collections.
Worth mentioning are its collections of aloes, agaves, yuccas and prickly pear cacti, many of which are considered the finest in the world.
Thanks to its microclimate (with an average temperature ranging from 17 to 29 °C), succulents rub shoulders with dracaenas, palms and other local plants. The garden boasts a wide variety of cacti, among which we can highlight Echinocactus grusonii, Cornegiea polylopha and Echinopsis pasacana.
SANTA CLOTILDE GARDEN
High up on a clifftop, Santa Clotilde Garden provides a stunning view of the neighbouring coves, such as Sa Boadella and Santa Cristina. It was designed in 1919 by Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí and was clearly inspired by the Italian Renaissance.
The garden is embellished with beautiful avenues, fountains, statues and staircases, often covered in plant tapestries that convey colour and freshness to visitors. On one of the terraces, hammocks are available for visitors to relax and enjoy the sunshine and natural surroundings.
